Events for March 2025

First of we want to thank artist gloria galvez and bed and breakfast for home is where the bat is. And a big thank you to everyone that came out for a bat-filled Sunday to make art and learn more about our flying mammalian friends.

Coming up next, we’ll be co-hosting a special workshop Latin Percussion workshop for people with hearing loss with Neighborhood Music School and the USC Bionic Ear Lab on Thursday March 13th. It’s designed to introduce basic rhythms and counting exercises for all ages through the use of hand percussion and Afro-Latin drumming techniques.

And all month, we’ll be celebrating the work of George Lane Benson, self-taught photographer, tinkerer and adventurer who was born in East LA in 1935 and lived in Norwalk until his death in 2012. He picked up pinhole photography during his retirement, documenting his changing city on his bicycle.

We’ll be hosting three pinhole camera workshops where you can make unique silver gelatin prints using Uncle George’s homemade camera collection. These workshops are free but limited to 10 participants per workshop and two of them are limited by age. The first one is on Saturday March 15, for high school and young adults. Please RSVP! https://artintheparkla.org/programming/uncle-george/

Community Band and Community Arts will be every Saturday this month from 11am-1pm, and Beginning Guitar for Elder Adults is also happening all month on Wednesdays from 10-11am

And on Saturday April 5th, we’ll have the opening of a community exhibition with Uncle George’s homemade camera collection, and prints from all the pinhole camera workshops.

So come on out to Art in the Park!
