Zinnia Spring

Please join Art in the Park and Milagro Allegro Community Garden in the planting and care of the Zinnia. We honor the seeds and the connection it gives us to the land. Events and workshops are organized around the spring growth cycle of the Zinnia flower.

Come plant seeds in the communal bed! Art in the Park and Millgro Allegro will be planting and sharing seeds at local schools and home gardens.     

Butterfly Art

Friday May 6th 5pm – 6:30 at Milagro Allegro Community Garden 

Saturday May 7th 3 – 4:30 at Art in the Park 

Explore the relationship butterflies have to Zinnias. Come create butterfly wings out of paper.  

Flower Dye Workshop 

Friday May 13th 5pm – 7pm, with artist Maddie Keyes-Levine at Milagro Allegro Community Garden 

Saturday May14th  3pm – 5pm, Maddie Keyes-Levine,  at Art in the Park 

Explore and experiment with deriving pigments from flowers that can be used as a dye or watercolor ink. We will be prioritizing experimentation and somatic experience over perfection.

Cumbia Percussion Community Workshop  

Saturday May 21st 4pm – 5pm

Come play along to the rhythm of Cumbia – some percussion instruments provided.

Binding New Worlds: Sustainable Mechanics and Botanical Sculpture Knowledge Share

Friday the 27th 5-6:30, with Artist Isa Peña 

at Milagro Allegro Community Garden 

This community based art installation will begin by weaving together organic materials to form a series of botanical sculptures built & grown for and by community. We intend to nurture connections to land while honoring the beauty and bounty of nature by presenting this offering to the community. 

Celebration of Spring

Cumbia Music with  Poco Pocho 

at Art in the Park 

Come celebrate the abundance of Spring and the growth cycle of the Zinnia. As a community we planted and cared for the zinnias. Bring Zinnia flowers, and other flowers to Art in the Park to add to a communal botanical sculpture.  Lead by artist Isa Peña. Cumbia Music from Poco Pocho. 

Installation Open to Visitors

Dismantling and Composting

Saturday June 11th 3pm – 5pm 

at Art in the Park and Milagro Allegro Community Garden

Gently taking apart the installation at Art in the Park and taking flowers back to Milgro Allegro to compost. 

Collecting and Sharing of the Seeds

June 24th 5pm – 7pm Harvesting and Sharing of Zinnia Seeds

at Milagro Allegro Community Garden 

This time will be spent harvesting zinnia seeds from flowers left to mature and dry on the stem. 


Safety: 

Events and workshops will be held outside and inside. Let’s keep each other healthy, please stay home if you feel unwell or have any potential covid symptoms. Attendees will have access to the restroom at Art in the Park building.
