Saudade

Exhibition by Jess Ofelia Sandoval

September 9th – 23rd, 2023
Opening September 9th, 2pm – 4pm

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” Heraclitus

Freeways, concrete and electric towers along the LA river are not permanent.  Everything will change and the river will continue to run without us; our love will remain.

Jess Ofelia Sandoval was born in Compton, California and raised in Southeast LA alongside the lower Los Angeles river. Her work focuses on California landscapes, waterscapes, and intimate portraits from memories: past and present. She is inspired by Mexican folk art, outsider art structures, nature, urbanism, Latin magical realism, surrealism, and colourist painting.

The exhibition is made possible through the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
