PLAY READING by THORNE STREET PARLOUR

Thorne Street Parlour presents a staged reading of THE BLACK DUCK by Bill Svanoe.

Can out-of-work soap opera star Hal Noble (Adam Mayfield) find happiness as the proprietor of a greasy spoon in Woods Hole? His brother Andy (Mike Barroga) an investment counselor, thinks not, but Hal perseveres, even up against the sizeable task list needed to bring the place up to code. He hires Mike Sweeny (On Shiu), a contractor whose specialty is bilking city slickers. With the help of a young woman named Penny (Jen Here) – one of his biggest fans – and his brother, Hal endeavors to realize his dream of “The Black Duck”.  Directed by Michael Zemenick, also starring Randi Cee, Jj Jackman, Elizabeth Carlton Chase, and the inimitable Martin George Berishaj.

The reading takes place Sunday, August 17th beginning at 1:00pm.

Thorne Street Parlour readings are suppored though a Neighborhood Purpose Grant from The Hermon Neighborhood Council.

Thorne Street Parlous has been in existence for over 10 years – a groupof theatre-loving friends, gathering together to read greatscripts. For 10 years we presented an annual season of readings, initially in our parlour on Thorne Street, and then via Zoom during COVID. With the parlour currently under renovation, we’ve chosen to expand for 2025 and present our readings to a larger audience. Operating under the auspices of the Highland Park Heritage Trust, and with a generous Neighborhood Purpose Grant from the Hermon Neighborhood Council, we are very pleased to present our slate of performances for this year – all readings take place at Art in The Park in Hermon, CA. These readings are free and open to the public, with a light reception to follow. The favor of an RSVP is requested to that we can have an accurate headcount – we hope you can join us for these afternoons of great theatre!   – jj Jackman & Sara Stuckey, Founders, Thorne Street Parlour
