Community Arts – Thoughts Into Images Workshop
May 7, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:50 pm
Community Arts is happy to welcome Artist Anakaren Silva
Thoughts Into Images Workshop
In this drawing workshop we will exercise one of the most fun processes of art making: create a concept! By freehand doodling we will try to gather from our memories, opinions, dreams, and anything living in our heads to come up with an idea, or concept, to create a bigger art project that can transcend your ink-filled page into a real photograph that is inspired by your concept. This is a three-part workshop, ending on May 21st with the “Take It Apart and Start Again” workshop. Bring a friend and be ready to daydream at the park!
Artist Anakaren Silva is a Mexican artist from Monterrey, Nuevo León currently based in Los Angeles who works primarily with photography and video. She pulls heavily from themes surrounding childhood, like memory, play, language and humor. Recently she has been working in the video essay format, with her latest project being a humorous soliloquy composed of media archives of dubbing gems, to try to verbalize in her own terms the relationship between America’s imperialist mode of media distribution and a way to subvert it’s consumption by re-coding their messages through Spanish dubbing. As for her photography practice– she actively shares her stills through an instagram archive, @tqmanaken
